The Best Supplements to Help You Sleep

Sleep can be elusive, and your day can be vastly influenced by how much sleep you get. Sometimes leaning on supplements to help you sleep is the best way to make it through. But, which supplement is best for you?

Melatonin SupplementS

It’s a classic, but there is a reason for it. Melatonin is the hormone that you release naturally when your environment gets dark. Chamomile Supplements

Chamomile may be the safest of the supplements on this list. Chamomile contains a chemical that helps promote sleepiness and may be beneficial if you struggle to get sleepy. There is a reason it is found in most “sleepy time” teas!

Lavender

Lavender contains the same chemical that makes you sleepy as chamomile. Many people like the smell of lavender and its relaxing properties, but you can also opt for lavender tea!

Magnesium

This is one of the more widely studied in the world of sleep supplements. Like chamomile and lavender, magnesium supplements can help you feel sleepy, but it will also support you throughout sleep. It is recommended to avoid taking more than 350 mg of magnesium as a supplement.

Over-the-counter drugs

OTC drugs, like doxylamine succinate (Nyquil) or diphenhydramine (Benedryl), are some other options for sleep supplements. These can often cause drowsiness, and it’s recommended that you consult your doctor before taking an OTC drug.
